OUR MISSION

Our mission is to become a change agent in the lives of young women, ages 13-18, by building self-esteem, developing and enhancing life skills, assisting with creating mental, physical, and spiritual balance.

We aim to expose young ladies to cultural diversity, while giving them tools to grow as individuals, and brace them for success in today’s society. Through mentoring, tutoring, encouragement, and unconditional support we strive to change the lives of those around us.

MENTORSHIP

Our mentors possess the qualities and skill sets to be a  leader for our young ladies. They are consistent, positive influencers in the community with a passion for helping to improve the lives of young teen girls. All GRITS mentors are required to have a background check with active references. Drug testing may be required as well. When working with our young girls, quality mentors is a must.

DROP-OUT PREVENTION

One of the 15 most effective strategies for dropout prevention is through mentoring. GRITS provides teenage girls with a mentor who develops and maintains a caring, supportive relationship based on trust. The mentors help the girls develop to their fullest potential based on their vision for their future. The benefits of mentoring include: increased school achievement, increased graduation rates, increase in self esteem, increased school attendance, and decrease in disciplinary referrals, just to name a few. With the many proven benefits of mentoring, students are more likely to stay in school and not drop out.

LIFE SKILLS

Our girls are regularly taught a variety of life skills including, but not limited to: relationship building, conflict resolution, team building, self love, self-awareness, and self management. They are also taught the importance of self value and the importance in giving back to the community. These are skills that are imperative for the positive growth of these young ladies.

Membership is now being accepted August, September, and October each year. It’s a year long program. Also, we meet every 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month. There are some deviations from this due to holiday schedules and travel time.
